THE SIN EATERS
By H.A. Brand
An eco-gothic religious mystery set in the swamps of North Carolina and Virginia.
In a drowned world where the land devours the living, the dead refuse to rot.
Deep in an isolated swamp, the Cloisters shelters a sisterhood who preserve the wetlands and guide travelers through its treacherous waters. But Sister Mudsnake alone leaves the Cloister’s walls, as the only one who truly knows the swamp. Years ago she was pulled from an alligator's mouth, a feral child who may have been living as a gator—or becoming one. Not even Mud knows for sure.
When mutilated bodies appear with missing hearts and human bite marks, Mud suspects another feral child is stalking the waters. But inside the Cloisters, a different mystery is building: a storm has unearthed old graves, exposing uncorrupted, perfectly preserved corpses. To the desperate sisters, the pristine bodies are a miracle; to Mud, they’re something far more sinister.
The swamp isn’t sending miracles. The swamp is sending warnings.
Visceral, weird, and dripping with gothic dread, THE SIN EATERS is a novella of swamp nuns and incorruptible corpses, blind faith and wild hunger.
For fans of Jeff VanderMeer's Annihilation, Karen Russell's Swamplandia!, and T. Kingfisher's gothic terrors—where miracles and monstrosities are reported as plainly as weather.
